St Mary's parish in Bacup want to put on a pantomime, probably towards the end of next January, based on the life of heroic nineteenth century Lancashire entrepreneur J.R. Pilling. He was manager of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank on the corner of Union Street in Bacup, and conceived the soaring idea of building a railway from Bacup to China. Amazingly he got quite a lot of it built, in the Middle East. But his money man, a well known MP of the period named The Hon Horatio Bottomley cheated him and he died in penury. We've got all the parts covered now but we're stuck for a pantomime dame (preferably to be played by a man). Lovely part. If necessary we could put the show off till March.
