View Full Version : Current Weather Conditions
Rossendale is quite a compact place, but there are times when some parts of the Valley can be experiencing some very interesting weather while other parts are seeing relative calm!...
Whether you have a full weather station and want to report your full current weather conditions, or whether you just want to say what things are like locally in your part of the Valley with the aid of an 80 year old barometer on your living room wall!, then feel free to post away your current conditions....
Remember to say where you are!...
:D
Matt.
As expected a very much different day today, feeling chilly beneath the cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain here in Haslingden...
Find attached some pictures of my weather station including my anemometer, rain gauge and radiation sheild which houses the temperature/humidity sensor. The weather station I use is the Weather Monitor II.

Current temperature reading here in Haslingden is just; +3.8C !!!
Compared to the last couple of days that is quite an amazing drop in temperature. Todays maximum temperature is likely to be just 5 or 6C, that is 10 degrees down on the last couple of days!
No wonder it feels soo cold!
M.
PS: Just had a report that there is sleet and some wet snow over higher parts of Weir.
Looks like a great setup you have there.
Is there anything it won't do? :suspect:

Not really, I even have a seperate sensor that measures the UV levels. Pressure, windspeed & direction, humidity, temperature, dew point, rainfall, windchill everything thats needed really.
3.9C @ 12:13pm

Just out of interest, todays maximum temperature was;
+4.6C
Maximum temperature on Wed was;
13.4C
Maximum temperature on Tue was;
15.1C
I don't need to work out the differences simply because you can clearly see there is a massive difference in temperature compared between today (Thur) and that of the warmth of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Temperatures 8 to 10 degrees lower!
Remarkable
Matt.
Chilly wind today in association with a Northerly airflow and a low humidity. Some bright or sunny spells across the Valley but quite extensive amounts of cumulus. Expect this to thicken up further during the afternoon reducing any bright spells as the day progresses.
Current temperature @ 11:25am; 10C
Wind: Moderate to strong NW=ly

A lot of cloud is currently present throughout Rossendale and it is quite cloudy. Just looking at satellite images you can see why, quite an extensive cloud sheet across a large portion of the country. The sun will burn this off and expect plenty of sunshine from late morning onwards....

Really struggling to clear is this area of low cloud, it is now beginning to seriously mess up issued forecasts to be honest.
Low cloud is often very difficult to forecast at this time of year, if it's dense enough it can last for quite some time, knowing specifically how long is very difficult indeed.
Satellite imagery continues to show a dense area of cloud over the region and it's going to take till lunch at the earliest for it to clear. Temperatures around the Valley remain depressed at between 8C and 10C.
This is a great example of why meteorology IS NOT an exact science {:o)

Rain has arrived here in Edenfield, expected to persist throughout most of the afternoon now, in some shape or form. Should be mostly light rain/drizzle.
Muggy though, temperature 17.1C

Stunning morning and early afternoon here in Edenfield and throughout the Valley.
Current temperature here in Edenfield is a toasty 23.8C, making it one of the warmest days of the year so far, hard to imagine, but with the summer we have had perhaps it isn't.
Some scattered cumulus clouds now bubbling up and overall cloud is expected to increase throughout the afternoon, heralding some heavy and possibly thundery rain/showers later.
Make the most of the warm weather ladies and gents!...
M.
Maximum temperature here in Edenfield was 25.9C
Very toasty indeed and no doubt one of, if not the highest temperature of the year so far...to be honest it's unlikely to be passed now

What's the outlook for Saturday? My sister is getting married so we are hoping for some sun.....
Terrible conditions here in Edenfield now, as the main rain area has set in. Visibility down to less than 1000m and the rain is coming sideways.
Total rainfall so far is 13.2mm and that will continue to rise, temperature is 15.5C
Wind speeds generally lower than was initially expected, but still expected to increase further later on this afternoon.
M.
Yeah, pretty grim here too.
Thanks for the update.
Rain continues throughout the whole of Rossendale. Low cloud is now affecting many higher routes above about 250m...
Rainfall total now up to 23.0mm - another 2mm and that makes an inch.
Rainfall radar showing further outbreaks of heavy rain approaching for the next 1 to 3 hours
Matt.
There only seems to have been (lightish) drizzle here in Blackburn all afternoon.
There only seems to have been (lightish) drizzle here in Blackburn all afternoon.
There has been some localised heavier rain embedded and at times it certainly has come down, maximum total for the day here is a large 28.2mm!
Surprising under certain circumstances what a difference a few miles can make. I am surprised though given the nature of todays rain that it was drizzle all day even in Blackburn.
M.
There's some dirty great big black clouds rolling in from the South West right now. :brickwall:
Torrential downpours now pushing through Rossendale....just had a rain rate (albeit very brief) if 45.2mm/hr !!!
