Not in Rossendale, but close enough and definately worth a mention. ;)

Thanks to Shifty_13 for the reminder.

28th and 29th July 2007.

A weekend of fun and excitement awaits when the fourth annual Balloon festival gets underway at Towneley Park. A real treat for all the family with huge hot air balloons floating in the sky above the town and over the surrounding hills.

You can see how the balloons are inflated and witness a mass launch as these silent giants take to the sky, there are all shapes and sizes from the traditional balloon to the more unusual and historical ones such as Bertie Bassett who rises from his sleep when called on by the crowds.

A spectacular fireworks display and ‘Nightglow’ where the balloons light up to music is undoubtedly the highlight of the weekend and elicits more oo’s and ahh’s than a near miss at Burnley Football Club. The wonderful choreography produces a rhythmic glow from the burners that light the balloons in time to the melodies of the great classics or the beat of rock and roll.

But that is not all, there is a whole weekend of entertainment, a funfair, crafts stalls, horticultural tent, and events in the arena will keep everyone on their toes.

I went once and there were no balloons because of the bad weather. :disappointed:

I was thinking about posting it, but didn't want to be called a traitor ;)

Went last year, but didn't realise that the balloons went up at 6am
Wandered about Townley Hall with the rest of the people, looking out for the balloons!

I bet the sight of the balloons in the sky in the morning is great and I think they do a night glow on the Saturday evening too.

Also i hear from a friend that Burnley FC are playing a friendly match with Leeds tomorrow & the visiting fans usually go on the rampage smashing up the town centre, something to bear in mind ;)

Got a bit sick of being attacked by the midges, but saw quite a bit of the 'spectacular' before leaving slightly early.

I got a few photos too ...... will post later.

Just as we got back to the car, it started raining - excellent timing I think! :D

Excellent pix. Love the 'big burn'!

Did you have to pay to get into the 'arena'? We did last year and weren't sure what we were exactly paying for, as you could see the action from outside of it!
