Re: Water Junior School about 1963

Why is there twice as many girls than boys, it wasn't like that when I went there in the late 50's.
I have some pics somewhere?

We used to write the number of milk bottles required on a small blackboard and place it in the window, the head was Miss Ecclesley and Fred Hayes was the caretaker, he used to double as "The Lollie Pop Man".

When us kids had our medical jabs, we were lined up with our sleeves rolled up and nurse used the same large needle for everyone until it was too blunt, she used to throw it like a dart. I had one brake off in my arm and the nurse used a pair of pliers to remove it, I must have cried as she gave me a "Fat Smack", boys don't cry she said, I have the scare to this day!!!

P.S. I am still alive and well and last Monday I walked 27.5 k's on the beach fishing in Mozambique in 40C+ temp, so it did not do me much harm, Thank You Miss Ecclesley!!!

Re: Water Junior School about 1963

I started attending Water Primary in 1949.

My dad owned the shop at the top of Dean Lane which has long gone now.

Used to walk to school back then as it was safe, not like these days.

We were bused off to Bacup baths once a week for swimming lessons.

The headmistress was Miss Brennan and other teachers I remember were Mr Chew, Miss Level and Miss Parkinson.

I loved that little school and all the mates I had back then.

I remember us all walking to Lumb, up some steps to a playing field for sports, forgot the name but was on the right as you head towards the Hargreaves.
Anybody got any school photos from back then ?

Re: Water Junior School about 1963

The field was 'Lumb United's ground, up some steps next to the "Wellington Pub" next to the Methodist chapel, the pub was later to become 'The Water Band" practice hall.
I was about 3 years behind you at Water school.
I have some photo's of the Wendy house in the corner of one of the class rooms!

Those were the day my friends, we thought they'd never end!

Flungy.
