Best holiday ever???

Following on from a comment by Lynne and George about childhood holidays, where/when/ what was your best holiday memory?

From my childhood, the best was our annual holiday in my Aunty's caravan in Wales.
Looking back, it was probably a strange mish-mash of people being enclosed in a VERY small space for 2 weeks in the rain, but we had a ball.
When the rain let up for more than 5 minutes, we were on the beach enjoying ourselves.
When it rained (most of the time) we went to look at castles! We've seen EVERY castle in Wales on more than one occasion!

But they were the BEST holidays ever!

Somerset. It was heavenly, I think the place was called Loo. We stayed on a working farm there. We went for a couple of jollies there but I cant remember seeing any photos of the holiday.
We used to do the castles in Wales too Jan, and I also went on my first honeymoon to Bodlewyddan (cant spell it now) to stay with an aunt..... we were poor then! Still am lol.

The place might have been called Ken, i might be mixed up...... whats new lol.

Re: Best holiday ever???

We used to spend our holidays at Ocean Edge caravan site in Heysham, Morecambe, when i was a young fella-me-lad.
Have some fond memories from those hols, including the Shell oil refinery a bit further up, had an "eggy" smell.
Funny the things you remember innit?

My dad must have got a better paid job a few years later on, we went a bit more up-market and spent a couple of holidays at a caravan site in Rhyl, they were pretty good as well, plus the site was fairly near to the sea, the promenade was like a magnet to kids, with all the shops and amusement arcades.
Nowadays, it's a sh1te-hole, not the place i remember as a kid, very run down.

Re: Best holiday ever???

I seem to remember having to cross over some train lines to get to the sea from our Caravan park when we were at Rhyl.
Am I right?

Possibly, although that could have been a different park to the one we stayed at.
Ours was just after a hump-back bridge, been past it many times since i moved here.
When you say train lines, do you mean a level crossing, or did you literally have to cross the lines?
Anyway, you can tell me when i come for a brew next weekend.

Re: Best holiday ever???

We had some cracking times years ago at Ocean Edge,

I can remember once we pitched on the touring site round near the beach-Woke up one morning and the sea had come right in and was lapping nearly up to the door of the caravan.

That is where the power station was as well wasnt it?

My parents used to have a touring caravan and we used to go all over the country.

Ahhh the memories you never forget!!!!!
