When you were at Hirsts did you know a man called Stanley Dust? He was my Uncle.

Re: Cotton mills in waterfoot

I was brought up virtually next door to Lolly Mill and my Mum worked in the Mill when I was growing up. SometimesI would go up the 'back steps' and sit in the corner on the first flor whilst I waited for her to finish her shift. I remember all the women coming out of the little facory with cotton fluff in their hair. The mill straddled the river which ran behind our house and there was a Mill pond behind it. Neither of the pictures you showed are of Lolly Mill bt I will try to find one for you. As children we used to play under the archway of the Mill where the river passed under it. On the corner of the block was a Chi shop and a Post Office and across the road was a corner shop called 'Ida's'. the lane across the road ran to the foot of Seat Naize where we played. Just before we moved away they started to build some bungalows at the end of the lane where it joins Burnley Road East. I think we lived at No 262???. There was a Butchers shop a few doors down and our house had been a Pub once.

Thanks, yes I recognise the B&W photo - what has happened to the Mill it looks so different in the second photo? It is sometime since I moved away and I think about 15 years since I last visited the area - happy memories growing up playing and wimberry picking on Seat naize.

Anyone know the name of the slipper factory just further down the road? My Dad worked there but I cant remember what we called it? Amazing when you think of the shoe and slipper factories that used to rule the world from Rossendale - all gone now!

Wimberry picking started first week of the school holidays, spent many a happy hour up there.
