Rust stains on cotton ...

Anyone got any ideas on how to remove rust stains ??

Lemon juice & salt hasn't worked. No wash detergents will shift them. Bought Stain Devils Survival kit that removes 40 stains , didn't have my glasses with me to notice rust didn't feature in the 40 stains and cant find any other proprietary stain remover for rust .

Devastated at prospect of having to bin my favourite duvet cover but its unusable in its current state

Woops. Never occurred to me that it would sound dodgy but rereading my original I have to agree it does sound very peculiar but in reality its a very dull tale.

- Blaming daughter entirely. Had gone out leaving duvet cover washing, she wanted to use the machine so took my cover out when the cycle had finished. Its super king size (huge), she was unsure what to do with it so bundled it (whilst still very wet ) over my grandmothers old battered enamel bread bin ( where I store my bulk bought wash powder ) I forgot to ask about it and she forgot to tell , 24 hours later and I discovered it , complete with rust stains.

See - dull in the extreme . Lost the will to live typing it, bet it reads equally tragically but you did ask Stoo !

But it was my favourite duvet cover

Thanks Spooks.
It was http://www.dr-beckmann.co.uk/product...-survival-kit/ I bought - 40 stain removal kit but rust wasn't one of them.
Don't think anyone makes a specific rust remover.
Lemon juice & sea salt paste hasn't made any difference.
Vinegar & refined table salt hasn't either (but my house smells convincingly like a chippy!)

Think I am going to have to concede defeat.

According to my housekeeper, an American product called Rit may help. Available from Ebay.

Re: Rust stains on cotton ...

It is my answer for everything but maybe WD40 is worth a try, it loosens rusty screws so maybe it will loosen the rust and let you wash it out! (Or it may bugger it up completely....)

WD 40 is Water Dispelant 40 it was named as such when the were experiments to find a water dispelant at NASA. 40 = experiment No. 40.
Its not a stain remover, and has very little lubricating properties, though some people think it does.
