I do trust the source of most of the bags (registered charity ones), it`s the dodgy looking printed leaflet variety that ask you to fill bags with old clothes & other items, (for the `third world`) - attach their leaflet to bag and they will collect to distribute ... Odour of rodent detected - Usually request includes handbags, dvds , curtains etc. I would never scorn the genuine charities but the idea of someone in the unfortunate circumstances - starving, disease, homeless finding any use for a Prada handbag, Harry Potter box collection or last seasons curtains is beyond me.

Ok. They are going to be sold on, not literally shipped to areas of need and proceeds of sale will be donated for relief work. But can we question what percentage of sale price is donated ?? Very very little I fear
We've just got a bag today in aid of 'the children's air ambulance' looked it up on the charity commission website and since it was formed in 2005 it hasn't spent any money on its objects. It's all gone to pay salaries of the fundraisers or its founder last years income was 800,000 its not benefitted anyone. I work for a local charity and always say make a donation to a cause you know and one that you can go and have a look at what they do. It's outfits like this that get hard working charities a bad name.

Re: Cash For Clothes

Well, I was driving to the tip at Haslingden yesterday with a boot full of old clothes and curtains various other bits and bobs and decided to give the cash for clothes shop a visit in Rawtenstall, was chuffed to come out with 12.00.
