Don't worry Gooodshaw Boy, the bard to my thinking merely states the obvious (though sometimes what is obvious needs saying).

Some teachers ask students to interpret what the writer means when often writers intend to be taken at their word.

Also.... I don't like those who quote poets just to be 'uppish'. To me it shows up weakness.

Re: Stuff that I like

If he was around now, I doubt he'd get a series. Maybe a BBC3 type thing if he was lucky. Target audience is a bit hard to pin down; politics veer a bit towards the right on occasion; a tendency toward simplifying race and diversity; wouldn't play well in Scotland; sexism, and whoah! Just how old is Juliet supposed to be, Bill?

More of a late night BBC 4/Radio 4 thang.

There's an American drama I watch, Sons Of Anarchy, which is based on Willys Hamlet, Step-father murders sons father, son seeks revenge by overthrowing step-father etc etc.

Re: Stuff that I like

True.

Sometimes I like a nice Carpenters tune.

Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth, Stone Roses, Carpenters. It's a good playlist.

Re: Stuff that I like

Never understood the massive appeal of this group, I hated any of this pantomime dressin up an still do buuuuuuttt..... I heard this on the radio today an I haven't heard it for years. I think it's actually a cover, but this song is so cheesy an over the top that it's absolutely magnificent.

I was singin along like a good un along with the lad who was drivin me, and the spoken bit at the end is so camp an ridiculous that you want to believe it.

Actually, I think I do

"We have been given a gift, we have been given a role... An that role is rock an roooooowooowooowooooll"

Stirrin stuff indeed....

Re: Stuff that I like

Agree with you about the group Kiss but, a great record on the radio always has me singing along.

Re: Stuff that I like

That just reminded me of :

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - I Love Rock N' Roll (Original Video) - YouTube

and that brought back memories of my midteens rebellion : HiFi full pelt with the windows open : Annoying our neighbours was my main aim in life.
