Well the gig was quiet to say the least - I dont know what to do now re promoting or even playing local gigs.

I emailed everybody on our dist list
Posted on forums ( local and music forums including the new Rossedalemusic.com site)
posted on myspace
put up posters in Stacksteads and Bacup
handed out fliers in Bacup and Stacksteads
The promoter advertised on their website and also put up posters and handed out leaflets in Bacup

Is Rossendale just not interested in Live original music?

I might add as well that this is the first time we've ever actually done a pay on the door thing were we got money coming to us for playing original music so we were hoping that we'd get the place full so that we'd get a nice chunk of money towards getting our album recorded - but alias not - Oh well

Dont get it whenever we've played in Manchester and other areas its been pretty busy yet we play locally and well I'm at a loss.

Any advise offered would be great on promoting gigs.

Sorry to hear it wasn't as busy as expected, despite a lot of promotion.

It could've been that it's the bank holiday weekend and people do go away for the weekend etc, myself included.

Have you thought about doing the Rose n Bowl, as they have a lot of regular music events on.

Good luck with it and if at first you don't succeed...... cheat.

You are not going to get anything in the valley playing original tunes other than 'famous in the valley'

Manchester is where you want to be.

One or two things that spring to mind....

Try to get in touch with The Night & Day Cafe down Manchester & maybe get a regular support slot. That way you can build a rapport with the contacts down there who could advise better than me.

PS : DONT play the Rose & Bowl!! This kind of venue uses agency's who circulate "cabaret" acts and nothing else. Original bands just dont go down. They want to see Elvis & Meat Loaf impersonators after a meal with a stella.

Dont give up on what you belive in, Your music! you have to attract your type of audience.

My lads band (The Attiks) have got a gig at the Rose And Bowl, and they arnt attached to any agency it was word and mouth for them and they have a lot of followers.
In the begining they were playing for free, but now they get payed and put all the moneys earned back into equipment for the band. and love every moment of it.
