Can anyone tell me anything about Charles Patrick 1814-1895 or Mary Anne Patrick 1809 - 1883? I am assuming one of the stained glas windows in St Annes Church is dedicated to them as their names and dates of birth / death are on it??? Must have been significant to the Edgeside community...Thankyou

I usually try to get the obituary if I want info on someone, if they were of the higher echelons so to speak they would usually have a very detailed obituary notice.

Re: Edgeside Park and Hall

I've come across Captain Charles Patrick whilst doing research in to the history of the churches of Rossendale.

It would seem he was a man of considerable wealth. On the 1871 Census he is shown as living at Cloughfold aged 56 years (born Edmunton, Middlesex) with his wife Mary Ann (nee Ashworth) two nieces and five servants.
His profession is given as H.M. Inspector of Factories whilst his wife and nieces are described as Landowners. I believe he was also the owner of a stable of stud horses.

In 1872 the Patricks donated land, which Mary Ann had inherited, for the building of Edgeside Holme National School at Piercy Meadow (later renamed St Annes). In 1884 the Patricks donated more land for the building of St Annes church (opened 1st August 1885) and later more land for the Graveyard and the Vicarage.

More on St Anne's Church here.

Re: Edgeside Park and Hall

If you check out the RFP for 1895 there will probably be an obit in there.

I have found this in the Haslingden Guardian which is a large piece on his funeral but not found an obit in this one.
