Fantastic stuff Danny, think I mentioned before, my dad worked at Natwest on Bridge street in the late sixties early seventies, that was when he bought the totem sign from the demo men for 25p !!!!

Re: Ramsbottom - Then, Now and Model

when you say totem im guessing you are talking about Ramsbottom, we also have one and two more from Summerseat and Rawtenstall.

Some of the members tell me that they received as a gift from the old landlord who use to be at the old corner pin back then it was called the railway inn? or hotel similar to the one in rammy. what a gift hey...but back then they did use to go for a pint or two after club nights....must of been stressful lol

Hope to see you down on the 17th then

Re: Ramsbottom - Then, Now and Model

Yes, the totem from Ramsbottom as well as the Passengers Must Cross The Line By The Bridge.

Funnily enough, I also had the original LYR Passengers sign which I found in the undergrowth not long after passenger services ended.
That got mislaid over the years....!!

Will try to get down to the exhibition, thanks...

Re: Ramsbottom - Then, Now and Model

Just thought i would add a few more to show you some other areas of Ramsbottom and the model of it in 1950.

The picture on the left shows the remains of the chimney during 2000 while the picture on the right shows the same chimney in 1950/1960. This chimney is located by the mill on Garden Street and at the rear of Barclays Bank on Bridge Street, As you can see not much remains today but a stud of the base.

This view shows the builders yard on Peel Brow opposite Kenyon Street in 2000 during its derelict years. The view on the Right shows the yard in 1950/60 in 00gauge model. The Builders yard today in 2010 is looking even worse for wear with hardly no roof standing and shows signs of total decay.

Re: Ramsbottom - Then, Now and Model

For those of you that like something a little different....
I have been working on this awhile so I thought I would share with you some of my latest now and thens. These are based on the layout which is set in 1950 with some pictures taken before say for example 1910 and with some modern pictures done in 2010/11.
I would say that they are quite good but some could do with maybe a refreshed image due to being old pictures but we will see when tiem permits.
I would also like your comments or opinions on dates of old photographs, new photographs and the ones of the models.
You can see these pictures by clicking this link Now And Then - Ramsbottom Model Railway Club
If you do have time to view the rest of the site then please sign my guest book and let me and the club know what you think of our hard work over the past 32 years.
If you fancy registering on the site for updates then please click the link Signup - Ramsbottom Model Railway Club
Thank you
Dan
