However, if you have an A1 scanner, a computer and plenty of time then I am sure a project will appear that lets you put them on DVD

Quick Chloe - grab him... lol

I wish

Seriously though we have talked about this and as the project is up and running to digitize all 19th Century newspapers by the British Library it would be a waste of time and money as all the local newspapers will be done eventually. The Blackburn Standard which covered this area before our own newspapers started is already on the site

Re: Bacup Echo and Others

There are a few of us thinking of bringing it back to life . Most Bacup folk are fed up of reading the Ramsbottom Free Press.

Question is would it be viable in todays quick electronic world or would folk still like to hear about if the bacon slicer still works or who was caught for urinating in boots doorway

Hi Chloe, thanks for the referral to the British Library, wow, you need many degrees and doctorates to work that site out, it's the most complicated website i have ever been on, no fault of yours Chloe but have you been on it, gosh.
I think if someone actually did put the old newspapers onto CD they could make a profit as you have to pay for the information you want from the British Library.
Just a thought.

The site I use in the free Lancashire Library site
All you need is a current library card from Lancashire.

Just google Lancashire Libraries
Once the site comes up choose Online Reference Library
Then Premier Choice
Then 19th Century newspapers online

and away you go.

And yes I have used the British Library site - in fact I demonstrate it to students for research purposes. It's like everything else quite overwhelming at first but once you get used to it it's fine.
