ISTR that there's a target for a certain percentage of roads to have cycle lanes? I don't think they have to be useful, or sensible, just marked. The ones on the resurfaced road at Rawtenstall that Laurieloo mentioned above are particularly dumb, as they also take up half the lane width through a fixed central reserve.

Re: Amusing Observations...

As I was passing the `cycle lane` at Lambton Gates yesterday there were 3 cyclists posing for photos, being taken by man standing on step ladder.
No idea what it was about or what it for, but bet the pictures are hilarious. ..If anyone on here sees them please share !

Re: Amusing Observations...

I still think the worst thing about bike lanes is when there is a decent stretch along a road....and it's just filled with parked cars

I'm not speaking from a cycling point of view, I'm speaking from a bus user point of view getting stuck behind the bikes because they can't use the bike lane because of cars

Re: Amusing Observations...

you see more cyclists on the pavements than in the cycle lanes. No lights night, coming down one way streets the wrong way, ignoring traffic lights. When one goes past me on the pavement I lean into him catching him on the shoulder usually causing him to crash. 4 todate. I dont swerve if they come down a one way street the wrong way. They think they are above the law. Last year just before Christmas I was on my way home late at night when I watched a cyclist that actually had lights on using the cycle path, I was amazed in fact so amazed that I started to look up into sky for a start and 3 wisemen. The the miracle was shattered as he totally ignored a red traffic light. Got I hate them

Re: Amusing Observations...

I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring here, but my particular hate are the city centre gooners.

I hate the bastards with an anger that knows no bounds.

They are complete dickheads who think that they are above any law.

All of them should be forced to have a wicker basket fitted to their handlebars with some crusty bread put in it.

That'd stop their macho, lycra clad shenanigins.

The tossers.

Re: Amusing Observations...

Don't forget tassles on the end of the handlebars.

And a playing card in the spokes so you can hear the sneaky barstewards coming...

Re: Amusing Observations...

Just watching Flog It. The antique expert has just valued a football game and was able to identify the strip as "my present husband played for Sunderland", then later in the bit once again referred to him as 'present husband' - Perhaps she collects them ??
Not so much 'life partner' then
Really tickled me.
