No, not the 'Wifebeater' stuff, the triple filtered 4% stuff........much nicer, better taste and no hangovers.

Re: Another pub closes

The bottom line is you can have friends round a few drinks, a pizza and you can smoke but I still miss going to the pub

Sorry to correct you wadey;

Quote:
Lager had been sold in Britain long before the 60s. It was brewed here as early as the 1890s, but was a very small part of the beer market. It had a reputation as a ladies' drink. When mixed with lime it was considered as an alternative shandy.
This is a nostalgic read, not a long one, on drinking habits and brewers.

Re: Another pub closes

Well, I for one go to the pub at least once a week and can get 4 pints for under a tenner, but then I drink real ale. The price of beer is worth commenting on, certainly, but it would not turn me away from a pub because I can get it cheaper in bottles at Tesco... Good beer on draught is streets ahead of anything in bottles (lager and other pressure keg stuff seems to taste the same from whatever you pour it out of...)

The main attraction of pubs for me is the social side, and the community atmosphere and spirit that we are severely lacking today. Many churches have closed over the last few years and the pubs are following; soon there will be nowhere left for people in the community to meet and chat on a regular basis. I love going in, chatting to all the locals, having a laugh with them, the landlord etc and generally having a good time. If my mates weren't going out, I feel I could always go into a local alone and find many people to talk to once I got there.

More and more will disappear, then one day we will turn round and wonder where they all went and most probably want them all back... by then they will all be houses or flats and it'll be too late!!

I agree all with all of that but the bottom line is that beer in pubs is simply too expensive.

Re: Another pub closes

I just don't like pubs for the simple fact that I don't like people

I have never found a pub I like, its either full of old people drinking bitter which is a bit dull or full of kids fighting which is a bit pointless

I much prefer to sit on my xbox all night with a 12 pack and chat to mates from all over the world, true geek style

"Everyone to their own" as they say Photokid, but there are some decent pubs to visit. If you are with a couple of mates all the better. My local, shut down now, used to have the young lads and lasses come in and used to think us 'OLD FOLK" were the entertainment. But although it was their local too they prefered to go into town where there was a bit more going on.
Most of the oldies on this forum were most probably brought up in an era when drinking at home was taboo.
