They are felling an enormous poplar tree by the roadside, just up from Marl Pits.
Traffic control stop/go signs in place, but they are having both signs on stop for prolonged periods as the larger branches are removed.

Almost finished .
Traffic signals still in use but are allowing continuous single lane traffic through now.

They dropped a couple of massive poplars in Crawshawbooth 2 weeks ago.

Guess they're not that poplar anymore.

Start the car........

I loved the notification letter about the planned felling received , informing us of the total unsuitability of species that had been planted by the roadside.
Er, yes, whatever . . . cut the accusatory tone and just cut down the blessed tree you planted years ago in error ! Though would hazard a guess that someone had trawled the archives and gleefully discovered that Tories were in control at time of planting

Re: Avoid Newchurch Rd. Rawtenstall this am.

New game for everyone Drive along Newchurch Rd & spot the felled tree stump !

Wont be too difficult. The houseowner of nearest property have placed their wheelie bin (for collection in the morning) alongside it ( & no, it's not our bin !). They are the exact same height.

I know very little about tree felling; Is there a reason for leaving so much stump behind ? I would have thought that it could have been reduced to near on ground level.
