Re: Rossendale Wakes Weeks

I'm sure I remember someone saying they were the last week in July and first in August.

I was in Rawtenstall library today and they were asking and I said I'd find out. Hello to all the librarians.

Re: Rossendale Wakes Weeks

In Whitworth we always had the Rochdale wakes fortnight, which was originally in August, and then later changed to June (the last two weeks if I recall right). This was not a good move as it nearly always rained at that time. I miss the old Wakes Weeks, it was always very quiet around here with so many people away at the same times.

Re: Rossendale Wakes Weeks

Yes definitely last week July first in August, sometimes most of it was in August due to the date. No shops open, newspapers had to be bought on street corners. it was like a ghost town.
