Red bus stop markings!

Anyone know the reason why - (other than stopping people parking) there is a need to define the bus stop bays in the 2 red lines? recognising of course the need to identify where they are!

In particular- why they need to be twice the length they were previously - you could park a jumbo jet in some of the spaces!

Can you still park in the area identified or will you get a ticket? I ask because some houses in Rochdale Rd Bacup now have these lines outside their houses when previously the bus stop zone area was smaller.

Re: Red bus stop markings!

Check the street signs regulations (or whatever it's called) as to what a bus stop should look like.

If it's not in there then it's not legal unless the secretary of state has give as a written authorisation of variation and parking tickets would be illegal.

pepipoo.com forums would be a good place to research that.

Some bus stops may be extra long to enable more buses to park there, esp on a major or school route where there may be several buses.
They still have to follow the law though.

Re: Red bus stop markings!

This is the repy I have had from Lancashire County Council - so beware if you park anywhere in or on the edge of!

The red bus line markings that you mentioned are to give the bus itself more space to get in and out of the allocated space given to buses to stop beside bus stops. I have phoned ParkWise and they have told me that if a car does park (or partly) on the red marking you will get ticketed for this offence.

Re: Red bus stop markings!

What offence though?

Mail them back and ask them what offence, and what part of the regulations these adhere to?

Re: Red bus stop markings!

there is one firm going around putting the red line markings down and several days later another firm comes around and paints a yellow line around the red line, there is a sign on the new bus stops stating no stopping except buses so if you stop in one expect a ticket, as i understand it the buses all have CCTV on them and this can also be used as evidence and tickets can be generated via a complkaint from the bus company.
