Waterfoot bus service under threat

This is a typical thing to do get old pensioners up a hill away from any shops then knock the bus service off.
A “POPULAR” bus service is set to be scrapped despite claims from opposition councillors that elderly residents will be left stranded.
The route through Waterfoot’s Edgeside estate has been earmarked for the axe after residents complained that the smaller buses were clipping wing mirrors of parked cars.
But Rossendale’s Liberal Democrats are trying to safeguard the route, which is used by the 482 and 483 buses, by coming up with an alternative route because it was “a lifeline” for pensioners.

Re: Waterfoot bus service under threat

A sign of the times i think Frankie.
There are obviously many more vehicles on the road today, compared with say 20 - 30 years ago, as can be witnessed by the amount of parked cars on these estates.
Also, are today's bus drivers as conscientious as they used to be?, i just couldn't picture the likes of Leslie Thompson and the other drivers of yore, taking a wing mirror off and not stopping.
Not only will it be a disaster for the pensioners or the disabled who don't have their own vehicle but it will aso mean a familiar route, that has been around for yonks, will disappear!
I spent a lot of time on that route myself many years ago, when i lived on Fairfield avenue and later, on Booth crescent.

I live in Lumb and the 483 is the bus I catch quite often - on the route round Edgeside the parking is to say the least, chaotic and the drivers often have struggles to pass on the straight bits let alone negotiate corners - Id love to hear what those bus drivers have to say about this.......

Typical axe a used bus route instead of sorting out selfish parking, some people have no idea how to park, if there is enough room to abandon it they do. Maybe time for restrictions on one side of the road up there and in a lot of other narrow streets where people double park with no thought for other people getting past.

As a lot of the gardens are in a poor state, it would be better to take them away and provide parking, keeping the best kept ones, this might improve the route. they need to prioritise.

They need to do something! I was on one on a Sunday afternoon not long ago, there were big vehicles parked all over the corners, half on the road, and another one who was arguing about giving way with the driver - I was expecting them to start fighting it got so heated - crazy state for a bus route
