Godi, If you stood at the back of Crawshawbooth motors, level with Water street loooking towards Burnley, then your on the same spot as the photo.
I think the metal railings on the back of the terrace on the left hand side are still there, so that should give you a focal point. Last edited by goodshaw boy : 08-12-11 at 06:16. |

Goodshaw Boy, I am in agreement with your assessment as to the current day location with respect to where the photo was taken. Looking at the photo, however, just above and a bit to the right of the woman's head looks to be a tunnel in the far background. Was there a wall or some structure there at that time with the waterway passing through it?

Dunno, That bits got me puzzled too. I used to play around there as a kid, I can remember the tunnell at folly clough, but I thought it would be to far away to show up on this photo. ???

Yes there is a tunnel its runs under the old coal depo/ where the garages used to be, the stream runs through it but it doesn't look that big which is strange.

I wonder if the well pours strsight into Limey Water behind the red van? Was it channeled over the stream in the past from the hillside? looks more like a pipe than a sunken well.

At the rear of the houses in Adelaide Street there used to be an old mill reservoir which was probably were the pipe was fed from. I vaguely remember the well from the early 1950s with the wall in the photo being much lower and the pipe coming across Folly Brook from the banking of the reservoir. The attached photo of Water Street was taken from the top of reservoir banking. The well would have been roughly were the washing line post is to the left of the corrugated building.
