Re: Crawshawbooth-Possible Old Tram Line

They dont look like tram tracks, they would be rounded at the top.

But then I'm too young to know what they should look like lol

Not really.....Rakefoot bridge is further on .But not near where i took these photos

It would be a long girder then as it goes for about 30ft where they have dug up.

Thinking of Crawshawbooth and old uncovered things - is Pilling Well still there?

Re: Crawshawbooth-Possible Old Tram Line

I would also be interested to know if Pilling Well was still in existence and where precisely it is or was located. I am also curious to know something about it's history and how it came to be known as Pilling Well.

Re: Crawshawbooth-Possible Old Tram Line

The area where Pilling Well was located i believe was Water st in Crawshawbooth. This street is down by crawshawbooth library and is still there today and the river still runs by there now.

Here is a photo taken from Peter Fishers Website.

Re: Crawshawbooth-Possible Old Tram Line

Certainly look like tramlines, just going off the grooves that are visible along the face of the iron and you can see the same profile in this photo of the lines being installed in the centre of Waterfoot...

Re: Crawshawbooth-Possible Old Tram Line

I came across the photo you referenced yesterday starting my curiosity. My 4x great grandfather James Ramsbottom and his family were living in the Molly Ring area in the late 1700's which is quite close to Water St. And at the time of the 1881 census one of the last Ramsbottoms from my family still in Crawshawbooth was living in the area referred to as Back Pilling Well. Before their marriage, James's wife Betty was a Pilling and I was wondering if there may be some connection to her family and this area known as Pilling Well. Initially, both James and Betty came from the next valley over in Lumb.
