Hi

Im doing some research into the history of Bacup Borough FC - they will be 125 years old in a couple of years time since they started as Irwell Springs.

I have a lot of information and some photos of teams etc already but would welcome any further info from the R O community. I will scan in photos and return all originals.

I will be popping into the Nat to see what they have in due course.

Please send me a PM if you can help.

Thanks in anticipation

Re: Bacup & Bacup Borough FC

Thanks for the comments - most of my stuff has come from the Bacup Times microfilm although I have collected some programmes from 1947& 49 1960's and 70's along with a few team photos - even a cigarette card featuring the team from 1936!

Some of the early reports and stories are fascinating

Will pop into Rawtenstall Library next week - ta

Re: Bacup & Bacup Borough FC

Would beinteresting to know of the local lads who played for them.
I remember going as a kid, crowd would be approx 400, stands used to be full, and even in them days there was misbehaviour by odd people in the crowd, namely the dropping of an egg on the refs head when he walked into the changing room.
One of the local lads was Mick Gee, it would have been around 1968.
Keep us posted on your research

Yes Altham - Mick Gee lived across the road from us - In the 70's England Schoolboy Peter Savil played at just 15/16 years. Peter signed for Don Revie at Leeds. In the 80's lots of local lads played - John Loney, Steve Thompson, Simon Holding to name but a few.
When the book is finished you can be first on the list Altham
