Matty, my mum is in a nursing home and the staff are wonderful, although mainly women. When a male carer arrives, the clients think it is their birthday!!
From what I can gather, they are paid a pretty basic wage which in my opinion, is a disgrace. They are working themselves silly, caring, cleaning and being wonderful to these old people. They should be on a fortune.
There doesn't seen to be much lifting allowed these days as they use hoists now (Health and Safety for all involved).
There are qualifications to be gained whilst you are working, NVQ's etc but I have no idea what the top pay scale would be?

Re: I'm looking for work?

Matty,
Have you considered "temping" for IT CAD projects, it pays really well, there are loads of agencys in Manchester but with your skills you should be able to ger £15-£20+ per hour, short term yes... but great contacts for after the current blip, Also, If you would like an independant review of your CV I would be happy to take a look.
Cheers
Cindy

As a temporary measure, you could get on the 'Supply' list for caretaking. They always need people to cover holidays with the local schools.

Re: I'm looking for work?

Thing is, I don't want to do CAD work any more, most CAD work is with AutoCad & that's not what I have been using, my CAD is entirely different & I don't really have the qualifications for any other company to do that same job.

So I'm looking for something more active than sitting behind a monitor all day.
As there are lots of jobs going in the care industry I would imagine that it's not that hard to find another once your more qualified/experienced in it?

I tried for one being a Driver & document scanner locally but did not get it, pity thats something I have plenty of experience doing too.

I'll look into the temp caretaker one (but where?), I have just applied to be market caretaker too lol

Re: I'm looking for work?

Sign up with agencies.

It costs you nothing and they make money by finding you a job.

Most companies use agencies these days because they don't have time to wade through 300 CVs and interview 50 people for 1 job.

Cheers.

doesnt effect yourback at all... if you pull a muscle or even feel its gonna pull then either your technique is wrong or the person your trying to move needs more equipment. i am trainedto nvq level 2 in health and social care. its a legal requirement now and costs nothing.
pay scales differ from firm to firm. the council pay a decent wage if not brilliant.

Re: I'm looking for work?

There were adverts being run a few months ago for people to train as driving instructors. Do you fancy that? I think it said earning potential was up to 30K and I think the company was called RED.
I dont know anything more about it than I heard a commercial.

Re: I'm looking for work?

OMG this has turned into a "find matty a job" thread... lol

Cheers for the PM's

I tried monster & another agency but because I said I did nvq assessor 3 training 14 years ago I get no end of info about jobs I can't do.

Now I have updated my Cv I think I'll try changing them.
