I'm looking for work?

Hello all, the job market looks pretty bleak out there.

However there does seem to be a lot of care workers required, is anyone on here a care worker that could advise what it's like?
Are there jobs that take you above minimum wage once your experienced?

I'd like a job locally rather than having to travel 20+ miles & one that is more active than sitting behind a desk all day, any suggestions?

Cheers,
Matty

Sorry to disappoint Lynne but Pedro will testify that the post office are making cuts everywhere they can at the moment.

Pedro loved it when he first started, you do gets lots of exercise carrying very heavy bags but some of the views on nice fine days are great.

Good Luck with your search Matty.

Re: I'm looking for work?

If it's paid work Lynne I'll do it.
Anything is better than sitting on my bum trawling through these damn job sites etc - lol

Has no one any experience of care work here?
I'd like to know if it's all wiping bums or are there nice jobs... lol

I have finally tidied up my CV & put all the required BS about key skills etc on it.
Now I'm sure to get a job

Re: I'm looking for work?

i work as a home carer and have been for a few years...
love the work, its not all wiping bums and cleaning false teeth.
definate shortage of men in the job, only snag is the pay is crap, then again if it was highly paid folk would do the job for the money and its definately now about that.

Re: I'm looking for work?

Matty, manual handling laws are far better now and care homes etc have hoists and a lot of strict policies now mate. My recommendation to a handy man like you is a school caretaker. Money is great, hours good and lots of schools about so therefore lots of chance to get something. it might be just the ticket
