Rip off Rossendale?

It's well documented that petrol prices in Rossendale are greater than in neighbouring areas ... Up to 5p per litre more for the same product.

MP demands Tesco explain petrol prices.

Is this an isolated example or are there other instances of Rossendale folk being charged more than in neighbouring areas for exactly the same product?

If there are, then let's name and shame them.

Re: Rip off Rossendale?

Here's one for you ...

I work near Pontefract and leave home early in the morning to beat the traffic .. around 5:30am. To keep me awake I get a McDs Latte.

If I go via the motorway, I pop to Pilsworth McDs.
If I go via Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Halifax, then I pop to Burnley McDs.
When I get near work, there is a McDs just off the M62 at Pontefract for a top up.

I hope you're still with me ...

We have a small office in Chorley where I head to once a week via McDs at Rising Bridge. There is also a McDs in Chorley near our office.

So here goes ...

Regular Latte at Pilsworth, Burnley, Pontefract, and Chorley is £1.39 at all of them.

At Rising Bridge it's £1.89 !!!

That's more than the large latte at the rest at £1.79.

Looking at the menu/price boards outside Rising Bridge, coffee is not the only product that's way over priced against the other outlets I visit.

Lucky for me I never pay at Rising Bridge because I use a loyalty card built up from buying lattes at the cheaper places during the week

The Rising Bridge McDs is the only one in Rossendale and my evidence points to the fact that it's ripping us off.

Re: Rip off Rossendale?

Thats because its not a true mcdonalds, its a franchised one and they are able to charge their own prices.

But yes its a rip off there.

What is it that makes these companies think that they can employ us for peanuts and charge over the odds prices?
Do they think we have a glut of poor unemployed and rich people or something?

Re: Rip off Rossendale?

I've had a thought about why it's dearer. It may be located in Rossendale but as it's classed as a services for the A56 that will be the most likely reason for it being more expensive. Not saying it's right to rip of motorists but services are inherently dearer than other outlets.

I try to avoid service stations where possible due to the rip off nature.

Re: Rip off Rossendale?

£1.29.9 per litre (unleaded) here at Tesco Rawtenstall this morning. The prices do seem to be sneaking up again.
