It would be interesting to see who was in this "competition" and what designs they submitted.

The competition was merely to find an architect to work with - NOT to find a winning design.

Various local groups will be consulted about any designs that might be put forward. There are many people on ROL that care about their town who could have some useful. meaningful input which would be a much more productive use of their time than standing on the sidelines and moaning about it afterwards. Just saying.

As David said, 7 companies passed approval to submit, sadly 2 dropped out, leaving 5, several were poor at best

One a dream or lie depending on your view (fully housing and a train into the centre), one would work have worked perfect in Manchester, leaving two that showed promise.

Guys,

Thanks for the updates .. We really appreciate them.

Looking at the website of the winners, they appear to be mostly experienced in Student Accomodation and Residential developments.

But hey, I'm willing to give them a chance.

It would be superb if you could keep us updated with any progress on this as I'd like to think that I have an eye for what might or what might not work.

What can we do but moan on the sidelines?

After all - no one is going to take the blindest bit of notice of what the people that live here want.

Shop owners on Bank Street have said the plan must include better parking to help boost trade, while others have claimed traffic wardens are driving shoppers away.

A consultation on the Rawtenstall masterplan is set to get under way as traders demand answers about the town centre’s future.

Traders demand answers about Rawtenstall masterplan - Rossendale Free Press

Coun Andy MacNae, Rossendale council’s portfolio holder for tourism, leisure and regeneration, said there would be extensive consultation on the future of the town.

He said: “The masterplan work we’re doing at the moment with Day and other advisers is around the former Valley Centre site and the buildings around it, the bus station and the old Town Hall site and the old police station. Consultation on the masterplan is starting in the new year. First of all that will be a listening process.”

He added: “If parking is something that keeps coming up we’ll take that on board. Then we’ll start to see design concepts coming out.”

Coun MacNae said it would include a mix of food and drink, retail and leisure outlets and added the partnership was currently approaching hotel chains to gauge interest in a town centre site.
