Building bigger sewers to help keep Limey Water and the River Irwell clean

United Utilities are carrying out some important works in the borough, starting 13th January 2014, and as such there may be soom disruption on the roads.

Please be aware of the following information from United Utilities;

We’ve already started work in land off the A682 at New Hall Hey Road, Holme Bridge, this is also where our site compound will be located. Our main work will start on 13th January 2014 and we expect all projects will be completed by winter 2014.

1. Land off the A682

We’ll be building a new underground storm water chamber and laying new larger sections of sewer.

2. Bank Street and St Mary’s Way

Building a new underground storm water chamber, laying new larger sections of sewer, installing new manholes and building a new outfall into Limey Water.

3. Bacup Road near the junction with Bury Road

Building two new underground storm water chambers and laying a new larger section of sewer.

4. Ilex Mill car park, off Fall Barn Road

Building new underground storm water chambers, a new control kiosk and laying new larger sections of sewer.

5. Car park opposite Highfield Road

Building a new underground storm water chamber, laying new sections of sewer and installing new manholes.

We understand this type of work can be a pain and we’re working closely with Lancashire Highways and local stakeholders to minimise the disruption. To complete our work safely we will need to remove some trees and put some traffic management in place. The project team will be happy to answer any queries you may have.Project 1

Our compound and working area is currently used for unofficial car parking. Users will need to make alternative parking arrangements for the duration of our work.Project 2

• Lower Bank Street car park will be closed from 6 January until August 2014. Alternative council car parking is available nearby at James Street and also at the top of Bank Street.

• There will be no vehicle access into the bottom of Bank Street from St Mary’s Way.

• We’ll have traffic management in place along St Mary’s Way heading towards Bury Road. To minimise the disruption on this busy road, where possible, we intend to tunnel the new sewer underground.Project 3:

There will be a temporary road closure in place which we expect will be required for a few months. Diversions will be clearly signposted via Bocholt Way. Buses will be diverted around Kay Street/Bank Street.Project 4:

• There will be a reduction in available car parking spaces during our work. We’ll ensure that there’s alternative car parking available nearby for residents.

• We will need to complete some work on Bacup Road which will require temporary traffic lights.Project 5:

Highfield Road

• Webron employees will have alternative car park arrangements in place.

• We will need to complete some work on Bacup Road which will require temporary traffic lights.

Thank you for your patience while we’re carrying out this important work.

We’ll ensure we provide regular letter updates to the local community and also have details in the local press.

We recognise that our work can get in the way and be disruptive to your daily life, so we’re always looking to support and get involved in the communities where we’re working.

We want to ensure that we can give something back to the communities affected by our work here in Rossendale and will be setting up a community fund.

The fund will offer grants of up to £1000 to voluntary, self-help groups and local charities that carry out positive work in the community.

Re: Major sewer work starts.

There have been some big illuminated signs on St Mary's Way this weekend warning that there will be no turn from St Mary's Way into Bank Street from Monday 13th Jan.

Work's only just started and I'm thoroughly peed of with the traffic problems already.
If it's going on until autumn then I better ring the Samaritans and see it they do bog of offers

They spent millions at Stacksteads on the new underground storm water chamber, has it made any difference ?

Traffic absolutely horrendous from Haslingden to Rawtenstall at tea time.
30 minutes from road end to the fire station and then more lights outside Ilex Mill.
Thoughts of this throughout the summer but at least by then it'll be light when I'm sat in the car in the rain.

Am I being a poop (apologies for my dreadful pun ) or does anyone else find the messages United Utilities have blazoned across their billboards shrouding the works not particularly amusing ?
Your number twos are our number one priority
Sewer replacements are a big job
etc

:disappointed:

Making St Mary's Way one lane Northbound is a scandal, they are backed up to Tesco in Haslingden and down the bypass, like the Haslingden roadworks nobody has bothered to re-set the lights

Question is - whens it going to finish?

I walked back from Rawtenstall at the weekend and found myself struggling to breath a it - not sure if it was the walk or the fumes....
