They each have their own staff but if someone rings in sick or on holiday cover is provided from the other pool.

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

Have I heard that there is a plan to build a brand new pool at Haslingden Sports Centre?

That would pretty much say to me that Haslingden Baths is closing.

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

There has been talk for years about building a pool at the sports centre.

It would make sense to have a fully integrated sports site.

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

They said there would be a 3m pool in Haslingden if they did.

Where would that be?

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

Surely they should build the new facilities before they close the current ones?

My opinion is that they charge too much for swimming and there are too many times when you can't go in because of certain groups having sole use etc.

Not everyone has the transport to take their children swimming and every child should have access to a pool and swimming lessons now that schools don't have time to teach swimming to many children.

What happened to the goverment initiative for free swimming for all, no doubt they were thinking we could all swim in the res at Grane and like it!

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

On the carpark matty .... where the recycling bins are ... at the end of the main hall. Its the only place where it could go. The new gym is round the other side, the tennis courts are at the back .. and they were only astroturfed in the summer.

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

I find it incredible that, in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, there is the possibility of any pool closures whatsoever within the British Isles. How many billions are they spending? Aren't they supposed to be investing in facilities to aid the winning of medals?

The report on the council website is a cop out. It makes no mention of possible external (Olympic-related) funding and it doesn't guarantee anything except the closure of one or both of the current swimming facilities at Haslingden and Marl Pits.

Looking at the costs detailed in the report, I would take the idea of a new pool at Haslingden Sports Centre with a small pinch of salt. They've just spent 1.2M upgrading the facilities there, but I can't see improvements to this value with my eyes, so I'm quite sure they won't get a new pool et al for the cost of the quotes they've had so far (1.5m & 2.5M).

It is also documented within the report that the ski slope, which has previously been profitable, is now struggling for patrons and will need 10M spending on it in the next few years just to keep it open. Yet closure of this facility is not discussed, other than stating it would become a risk in the near future! Unbelievable! Would you rather have your kids learning to ski or learning to swim?

The whole thing is a (expletive deleted) shambles.
