Rossendale Pool Closures?

Rossendale Swimming Pool Closures?

Just been to Marl Pits Swimming Pool and they had a leaflet on the Reception.

Got a copy and this is what it says :

Rossendale Borough Council are in the process of reviewing leisure services throughout the valley.
They are looking at the closure of one or more of our present resources and Haslingden and Marl Pits are strong contenders for closure.
A meeting will be held at Haslingden Pool on Monday 19th January at 7.15pm to gather support from users to keep the present facilities open.Your support on the night would be very welcome.

Also on Wednesday 21st january there is a open meeting of the council at Hardmans Mill,Rawtenstall at 6.30pm to discuss what facilities they propose to close.
We need to let RBC know that the present water based leisure facilities must remain in place until an alternative and up to date resource can be provided.
Please come along and offer your support on the night.

The usual con by the council will probably kick in here. They will announce that they are closing several leisure facilities and people will fight against it. Then they will conceed to public opinion and make us believe that we have won by keeping open one or two when in fact they were only ever going to close the ones that they will.

Didnt sound like the staff at Marl Pits were Happy!

If they carry on like this there will be no facilities left in Rossendale!!!

Re: Rossendale Pool Closures?

Reading between the lines, it seems like Haslingden Baths is top of the list for closure.

It's a Vicorian building and the argument will be it needs too much money to bring it up to the 21st century. :bonk:

What happens to Haslingden Amateur Swimming Club if that happens?

I saw many of their members at the Central Lancs Swimming Champs in Salford all this weekend.

I was in the sauna on Friday and the concencus of opinion was that it is a "done deal" and Halingden Pool is going to close.

Thats a crying shame. Each night I go there you cant move in the water its so popular.
What are they going to replace it with? Are they going to build one at the sports centre as they have proposed before?
