Plopped through the letter box this morning:

Rossendale Borough Council - Planning Application

New/upgraded access road across the moors to the new wind farm at Crook Hill above Todmorden.

Whoopee, more traffic at the busy Market Street / Landgate turn (used to be the Red Lion pub).

Peter

Amendment to planning permission now. It looks like they're going to be shipping the masts etc in from the south through Rochdale, so they won't need to cut back the rock face at Landgate to allow the loads to swing round when coming from the North.
No mention of the approved route for delivery, just "movement to site of long-loads up Market Street from the south".
Should be fun getting them through Rochdale.

To be honest I'm surprised that they haven't tried to acess the site from Limersgate at Sharneyford as this is already granted as the route to the Reaps Moss Wind Farm and the existing track goes almost to Hades.
Yes, widening Limersgate and cutting the remainder of the road would make a hell of a mess but these developments don't seem to worry about visual impacts.

Re: New access Landgate Shawforth

It looks like we won't have long to wait to see how much/little impact turbine delivery will have on local roads.
I've heard that a practice run for the new site at Sharneyford is to take place next week with scheduled deliveries up the M66 and through Rawtenstall, Waterfoot and Bacup due to start at the end of September.
Apparently the plan is for early morning 7am ish deliveries on week days so may not be to bad but any hold up on the motorways would no doubt have an effect, especially if arrival coincided with school opening times.
Only 5 of these turbines going on Todmorden Moor but they are 25 metres taller and with longer blades than those on Scout Moor so delivery up the A681 is certainly going to interesting.
