THE owners of a Rossendale landfill site are planning to expand the industrial rubbish tip to include food and farm waste.

Fears raised over Ramsbottom landfill expansion (From Lancashire Telegraph)

Peel Environmental Ltd, which owns Fletcher Bank Quarry in Shuttleworth, Ramsbottom, wants to construct an anaerobic digestion plant as an addition to the site.

Bet it will smell horrendous.

Re: Plans for Ramsbottom landfill expansion

Its in Shuttleworth/Ramsbottom.

Contrary to what's been reported, AFAIK that is not in Rossendale but in the GMR borough.

Some info about AD plants, it may not smell as much as food waste being chucked on landfill and it has the benefit of energy production out of it.

Shouldn't be placed near residential properties though.

The boundary between Rossendale and Bury/Greater Manchester goes through the landfill site.

It's quite surprising how far south the Rossendale boundary extends ... Past Nangreaves and just past Walmersley Golf Club with the Club House on the Rossendale side of the line and and the rest of the course in Greater Manchester.

Ah, so there may be benefits putting it one side or the other then.

Proposals for waste plant in Ramsbottom are withdrawn (From Lancashire Telegraph)

Coun Ian Bevan, who represents Ramsbottom, said: “It feels like a real victory for the area.

“I’m delighted.

“There was a lot of public concern about the plans, not only about the smell which it would produce, but the particles it would send into the air, and the traffic it would bring.”

...

Kieran Tames, development surveyor for Peel Environmental, said: “We plan to re-submit our planning application in the coming weeks.”

- Hold off those victory celebrations.
