A planning application has been submitted by Golf Rossendale for a Driving Range on land at Marl Pits.

I think it's somewhere up by the top football/rugby pitches.

It'll save me driving over to Blackburn.

Bring it on!

Re: New Golf Driving Range.

I know nothing about golf but what is the difference between a golf course and a driving range?

Re: New Golf Driving Range.

A golf course keeps them out of the house longer and needs skill and patience
That's why you will find most men golfers at the driving range and most women golfers on the golf course

This situations is not restricted to the USA. Here in the UK we have may clubs who are close to going bust. When members receive their Christmas credit card bills in one hand and their golf club annual subscriptions in the other, guess which one will get paid? It is feasable some clubs over here will be looking at between 10% and 30% of members not renewing in 2009. We, like you have too many courses and with a game of golf taking all day (travel, 5 hour round, drink in the bar and travel home, there are so many pressures, both business and family, to do other things. We have many clubs here in the East of Scotland where you can have full membership for less than 500 / $750 per year, and no joining fee.
The one thing which is vital if these clubs hope to survive, is that they ensure the product they offer is the best it can be. When clubs lay off too many staff, or fail to replace the greens mower, then people will simply go elsewhere. Golf clubs need to be brave and take action now to get rid of the stuffiness, if not they face a bleak future.

Johnny, The one at Blackburn (next to the hospital) has shut down as far as i know. I used to go there.

I'd be very happy to see one up at Marl Pits tho

Re: New Golf Driving Range.

A 6.5 million Birmingham leisure complex which includes a driving range and a golfing academy run by top women’s golfer Alison Nicholas is caught up in a crisis after its owners went bust.
Administrators KPMG have been appointed to the Host Corporation Ltd, which operates the high-profile Hostcentre golf course and driving range at Queslett Park, Booth Lane, Great Barr.

It's a new planning application, so I'm sure they'll be aware of the economic issues of today and will have done their sums.

On the face of it, they will have a massive catchment area with absolutely no competition for miles around.
