Fishing in Cowpe - Help Please...

I've recently moved from Staghills to Cowpe. I've lived in the Valley all my years and when I was younger, myself and friends would regularly make the trip to Cowpe Res.
Now I live up there, I decided to take my boys on a walk the other day, so up behind Kearns Mill is a lodge which has a private fishing sign there.
I can't find anyone who knows who runs/operates the lodge - any help would be appreciated.
Also, anywhere else up Cowpe I could take my boys fishing? Do you still require a Lumb Valley Anglers license? I haven't been fishing since I was a teenager. Rod license required these days?
Thanks in advance!

Yes you need a rod license, available here daily, weekly, yearly etc.

Not sure who owns it - someone will likely be along later to let you know.

It may even be mentioned in this thread.

Re: Fishing in Cowpe - Help Please...

Seems an estate agent owns it and isn't really doing anything about fishing rights. Cowpe fly anglers used to issue day tickets don't anymore. The water isn't patrolled by anyone and neither are they looking after the stock, nor the condition of the pegs.

I've fished it a few times, it's good for a few hours enjoyment. A few of the chaps from cowpe fly anglers came to talk to me on the bank a few weeks ago and said that a lot of the trout from the above res have come down after heavy periods of rain fall. In their words they said any trout caught should be knocked on the head as they are eating all the eggs of any other fish in there. I haven't been back since but on one of my first visits there I caught a rainbow close to 3 pound. I've also caught a few blue trout but they all seem to be quite small so I assume they've been washed down recently.

There are plenty of perch and roach in there that are decent sizes too.

I've come to the conclusion that no one is going to mind if you're fishing up there, and certainly no one is going to throw you off. Unfortunately it's been left un attended for so long that there are now only a few pegs that aren't rotted away. Just make sure you take care of the fish, and tidy up after yourself.
